Your New Years Resolution, remember it? Hopefully most of ye are still keeping up with your goals and if you’ve already forgot about it then there’s no better time to kick start it again then now and no point in waiting until next new years! This post is focused on New Years resolutions regarding exercise.
It’s impossible not to have noticed the increased amount of people that are walking/jogging the roads in 2014. No doubt this boost is due to people’s new years resolutions and plans be healthier. I’ve seen people of all shapes and sizes, different ages and both men and women out for their evening walk in the wind, in the rain and in the cold. So that brings me to wonder what peoples resolutions were. If your resolution was to go out for a walk everyday then I guess you have no choice but to go out in this weather but if your resolution was to lose weight/be healthier/fitter etc. then there’s no need to give yourself more punishment than necessary!
Now I’m not saying that people shouldn’t be exercising outdoors and I’m not saying that you need to buy a gym membership let me be clear. All I’m saying is that if your goal for 2014 was to lose weight and your trying to motivate yourself for an evening walk. Then you look outside and see the weather, Ice cold rain along with a mini hurricane, then its going to be considerably harder to motivate yourself out the door! I dunno about you but I’m not a fan of going out in that weather, some people are and that’s cool too there’s no harm in it but there are easier ways to lose weight.
Wouldn’t you rather stay inside and exercise? I’m sure there’s a nice bit of empty space somewhere in your house that you could do a bit of exercise. Maybe where the Christmas tree was or in your bedroom. It doesn’t take much space and any equipment is just a benefit not a necessity for weight loss. Design yourself an exercise session/circuit with exercises like squats, lunges, push ups, jumping jacks etc. that you can do at home and avoid the rough weather outside. Then when the weather clears up you can go back outside and do your walk/jog or you could even do your circuit outside in the fresh air.
The important thing is to keep exercising and dieting and heading towards your goal of weight loss/fitness/better health. If you are finding motivation a problem then don’t let the weather be a factor in you reaching your goals. Have a back-up plan in place so you never miss a training day. Training at home is easy once you have a plan in place.
Don’t give up on your resolutions.
