Hi, my name is Eoin McMahon and I am currently working as a personal trainer at Steve McGrath Health and Performance.
I completed four years at LIT Tipperary/Setanta College studying Sports Strength and Conditioning. The course was performance based but I gained a thorough understanding of all elements of health and fitness including strength, mobility, speed, power, hypertrophy, endurance, Nutrition, psychology, programme design and exercise techniques.
Since finishing college and starting working at Steve McGrath Health and Performance in 2016 I have gained a wealth of experience working personally with clients everyday in a one to two semi-private environment. On a daily basis I work with general population, athlete and injury rehab clients. Activities include initial assessments, programme design, coaching proper technique and corrective cues and nutritional coaching.
I have also done Strength and conditioning work as part of my College experience and afterwards with a number of underage teams in hurling and soccer. This was more focused on performance attributes such as strength, endurance, speed and agility. This involved me designing, periodisation, coaching and correcting larger numbers of athletes training together.
As for my own training I’ve done many different styles of training and like to try out different training modalities and focuses. My favourites are strength and hypertrophy but I also like Olympic lifting, plyometrics and sprint training. I also play around with my food quiet a bit changing calories and macros for different effects. I feel it is important to have a thorough understanding of many different forms of training and nutrition and not focus on a strict one answer for everything approach.
I have started using my free time to work with some people online and see how effective I can be coaching online and what I can learn about it. I know there is a difference in what can be done with people in person and online and am looking to explore this.
My aim for this page is to have a place to share blogs and give people information as well as act as a base for online coaching. All feedback appreciated!
